A Differentiation exercise - "Accommodating for Sandra":
Sandra's strengths include memorization, such as with vocabulary and formulas, good peer relationships, and computer skills. Her difficulties are in the areas of abstract concepts, making inferences, understanding over-arching concepts in subject matter, and trouble completing homework assignments. Sandra is interested in computers and design, and she has expressed an interest in teaching. In this unit of geometry, Sandra will be given many opportunities to succeed through the nature of the subject material and the different lessons modeled. The concepts taught in this unit start with basic terms, methods, and formulas. All these tie into her strengths. The culminating activity for the unit - the unit project, Modeling Geometric Shapes - will tie into Sandra's interest and enjoyment of design. Additionally, the varied lesson models and use of technology should help to engage Sandra in the concepts being taught.
